Seven to ten days left: last call for the country comparison
In this window everything still goes, including ordering from a foreign Amazon store. Deliveries from Spain, Netherlands or Poland normally need two to four working days; from Italy up to five. Add buffer in December.

Two rules for this window: order only «Dispatched from and sold by Amazon», because marketplace sellers abroad carry the least reliable delivery estimates. And take as much as possible from one store — that saves postage and you only track one consignment.
Three to five days left: domestic, but the search widens
From here foreign shipping is no safe option. The country comparison however keeps a second use often overlooked: availability.
If an article is sold out on amazon.co.uk or only deliverable in January that says nothing about other stores. Stocks run separately. For an item exhausted here but sitting in the Netherlands a look can pay if the delivery estimate fits. It is a crutch, not the standard route — but it occasionally saves a gift.

Now no longer the price decides but whether something arrives in time.
Realistic are same-day or overnight options if offered for your address, plus click-and-collect at local retailers. Many chains show online the availability in each specific branch, making the trip plannable.

A few hours left: digital
Digital gifts arrive instantly and there is nothing against them as long as they suit the recipient.
What works: Amazon gift vouchers via email with selectable send time, e-books, audiobook subscriptions, streaming subscriptions, language learning subscriptions, credits for gaming platforms.
One point where many fail: cards and codes are tied to the store of their country. A PSN card from Spain cannot be redeemed on a UK account; same for Steam, Xbox and Nintendo. A tip on effect: a code inside a handwritten card lands differently than a forwarded confirmation email. The effort costs five minutes.
What you can skip
Express surcharges on hope. If the delivery date falls after Christmas Eve anyway the surcharge advances no date.
